The Latex Catsuit I Almost Didn't Order

The Latex Catsuit I Almost Didn't Order

I nearly talked myself out of it three times.

First time: too much. Second time: where would I even wear it. Third time: I'd already had it in my basket for two weeks and was starting to feel embarrassed about how long I'd been thinking about a single purchase.

I ordered it on a Wednesday evening, mostly because I was tired of looking at it.

It arrived in a flat matte black envelope, which felt wrong for something I'd spent that long deliberating over. I tried it on immediately, still in my kitchen, coat not even off yet. The fit was — I don't know how to explain this without sounding dramatic — exactly right. Not tight in the way that makes you hold your breath. Just present. Like it was supposed to be there.

I wore it that Friday. Not to anything special. A friend's birthday drinks in Dalston, the kind of venue where the lighting is bad and everyone's slightly overdressed anyway. I paired it with nothing particularly clever — just a long leather coat and boots I've had for four years. Someone asked where I got the catsuit within about twenty minutes of arriving. I told them. They looked it up on their phone at the bar.

The thing about a well-made catsuit is that it does the work so you don't have to. I didn't think about my outfit once that evening. Didn't adjust anything, didn't check anything, didn't have that low-level awareness of a waistband or a strap or a hem that's slowly migrating somewhere it shouldn't be. It just stayed exactly where it was supposed to be, all night.

I've worn it four times since. Twice to events, once to a shoot, once on a Saturday afternoon when I was working from home and wanted to feel like a person. That last one sounds strange but it made complete sense at the time.

The version I ordered was 0.40mm — light enough that it doesn't feel like a commitment to wear, substantial enough that it holds its shape properly. I'd been warned off catsuits before by people who'd bought cheap ones that bagged at the knees and elbows after an hour. This doesn't do that. The latex stays taut, the seams stay flat, and the finish — that particular kind of deep matte black — doesn't pick up every fingerprint and piece of lint the way cheaper latex does.

I still think about the two weeks I spent not ordering it. All that deliberating over something that turned out to be, genuinely, one of the better purchases I've made.

If you're doing the same thing — basket, close tab, reopen basket — just order it.
